Amendments to Library Regulations

To further improve the effectiveness of Library services, amendments will be made to the Library Regulations with effect from 1st July 2010. Highlights of revisions are as follows:

Section 4.2 – Borrowing rights of HKIEd Regular Staff Child Dependants
Borrowing privileges have been granted to Child Dependants of HKIEd Regular Staff. Their borrowing rights will be the same as Category C Members with a loan quota of 15 items. The loan quota and loan period table in 4.2 will hence be updated accordingly.

Sections 4.9, 4.10 and 4.11 – “Maximum Fine” no longer applicable to lost/assumed lost items recovered
Overdue fines of library loans are currently capped at $30 for 30-day and 90-day loan items, $100 for 3-day and 7-day loan items, and $60 for 3-hour loan items (i.e. the “Maximum Fine”). To encourage prompt return of library materials so that other library users will have fair chances to use them, “Maximum Fine” will no longer be applied to “lost”, “assumed lost” or “claimed returned” items which are later recovered and returned to the Library. The overdue fines of these recovered materials will be calculated up to the date the item is officially returned to the Library. Relevant sections in 4.9, 4.10 and 4.11 will thus be revised to reflect this change.

Sections 5 & 6 – Amendments of wording relating to violations of Library Regulations
Minor changes will be made to replace the negative wording of various sections in 5 and 6. All actions and effects resulted from violations of Library Regulations will remain unchanged.

For further details, please consult “Library Regulations” under “About the Library” on the Library Website (http://www.lib.ied.edu.hk/), or contact the Library’s Information Counter at 2948 6653.
